Severe plantar fasciitis in his left foot required surgery in December 2021. Then, in 2023, a fully ruptured L4-5 disc sent him into urgent back surgery — followed two months later by a second plantar fasciitis surgery, this time on his right foot.
In between, Matt would eat right for a couple of weeks, feel good about it, and fall right back into old habits. Rinse and repeat. As someone who travels constantly and makes comfort food for a living, it felt like a battle he couldn't win.
After the back surgery, things got harder. Every single morning, from post-op until just a few months ago, he had to brace himself just to bend over. That was his normal, and it was no good.
